I have always been drawn to
the various techniques associated with sculpted
glass
but never explored working
with glass until 2007. It was at
that
time that a good friend
of mine, and a multi-talented artist,
Dennis
Chamberlain,
was teaching a class in beginning glass casting and
my
curiosity
arose. The class was a great and I was then inspired to
take a
class in glass fusing. After that I was hooked on the many
possibilities
of Kiln forming glass and decided to explore this
fabulous media in
more depth. I have since taken several more
classes and explored many
different techniques of
using a kiln
to manipulate glass.
To me glass is
something that presents itself to the artist and demands that one take it to its
limits. It is a wonderful material that on it's own is a fragile solid, one that
can be taken by an artist, heated, blended, manipulated, and transformed
before being brought back to a fragile solidified form.
